I started my project, ‘Love Stories’, by reading about the philosophy of love and desire. Reading this text was definitely useful for me as it helped me define what I wanted to look at within my project and also opened me up to new definitions for and layers of meanings to things that previously seemed so straightforward and simple.
My plans for this project were initially to produce a zine telling a little love story through a range of paintings, photography and drawings however, once I started, I thought that a single love story I made from a collage stood out as the strongest and so instead, I made this the focus.
My exhibition piece consists of an oil painting and a stop motion and the two go hand in hand to tell the love story I composed from found images of other love stories. I think the dynamic between the story I created and the fact that each image also stands alone with its own narrative is really interesting and shows the complexity of the tale.
