Isabella Taleghani

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design 2019 / 20

Forgotten Shepard, photography book

My work has been highly influenced by old films that ponder subjects such as dreams and the essence of reality or questioning reality. Filmmakers such as Fellini, Ingmar Bergman and Tim Burton are some of the artists that have played a part in developing my ideas in this project.

As the project developed I applied these influences into my photography. I wanted to explore ideas of conscious reality, what it means to be in the present and how that is defined. In this project I have mostly focused on what isolation can mean and how that can conjure dream states within one’s self. This period of time of not having access to the studio has made me focus on what’s been possible to achieve. I do not have much space or materials to experiment with, so I couldn’t use larger canvases or experiment with collage due to not having a printer.

I have adapted to the situation by developing the idea of drawing collages myself in my sketchbook  and using the photos that I had previously taken.

'Dream state' 34s, digital film

Another challenge was not being able to use online resources such as photoshop due to the old computer that I have. However, this has led me to focus on my photos and use them in their existing state to develop my final outcome into a book format, which will hopefully become a printed book in the future. Throughout this course I have learnt how to develop my ideas in order to create a focused project. It has shown me that there are always going to be challenges along the way but that through art there are multiple solutions to be able to adapt to situations and communicate an idea.
