Annabelle Prissert

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design 2019 / 20

Now and Then through Memories.

Throughout this project, I have done constant contextual research to find inspiration. More specifically looking at artists such as Sam Szafran and Anselm Kiefer, objects like folded screens or materials such as paper and wood. The main resources I have used for this project have been archives from my grandfather's studio; photographs, portfolios, and his autobiography. Kiefer and Szafran's styles of painting have influenced the dynamic in my piece, folded screens have inspired the format, and my grandfather's written work was the blueprint for the narrative.

I feel like processes that I explored throughout the foundation such as photography and printmaking have contributed to the development of this project.

Having to alter my plans has lead to different research and inspiration whilst keeping the same concept. The possibility to screen print a photograph on fabric in the school's facilities had me searching for alternatives at home using Mod Podge or acetone.

Initially, I had planned on making a garment which was going to be quite a challenge for me. However, as we had to leave school facilities I had to approach this project differently and started look at basic materials, such as paper, I use at home daily.

Reflecting on how I started the project and how it ended and considering the conditions under which we had to work; I feel like I have developed an outcome I am really happy with. However, if I had to develop it further, I would probably do my folded screens on a life-size scale to bring the decorative with the practical.
