'The Sound of Silence’ Speaker playing created audio, microphone and epoxy resin
This selection of work emulates my ongoing exploration of the presence of a protagonist, a personality or latent “life-force” suggested through the outcome. The natures of such are to be questioned by the viewers themselves. The latter adheres with my current aim to create art which exists intrinsically, prompting an experience that perhaps I can’t completely control. Previous works (most of which are sculptural) tend to suggest the presence of narrative especially with my focus on the use of found-object, exploiting their pre-existing associations to satisfy the intended symbolism in the outcome. However, as my studies progressed I began to abandon the idea of literal interpretation and explore art that is inexplicable, an experience that is more accurately described by emotion than words. This switch being partly inspired by the monumentalist motifs of Rothko, Serra and especially British abstract-expressionist Ian McKeever. Although being careful to not lose all sense of meaning I focused on refining my process and finding the nuance between literation and complete abstraction.
